Louisiana borrowing rules
Legal, with licensed lenders
- Maximum loan
- $740 for deferred presentment
- Fee cap
- Up to 16.75% of the check amount, plus up to $10 for documentation. The former $45 cap was removed.
- Loan term
- Up to 30 days for deferred presentment
- Rollovers
- Rollovers are prohibited, but a new transaction can follow payment of 25% of the advance plus fees.
The $740 maximum applies from September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027. Small loans have a separate $370 limit.
